It is so good that July's desktop wallpaper deadline came up, I needed a push to draw. (Download your full sized version of this month's desktop wallpaper here, for personal use only please.) I haven't been so faithful to the sketching process over the past couple of weeks. Full disclosure, I was actually sketching like crazy a few weeks ago, doing some sample sketches for the book (that I didn't want to post publicly on our blog). You see, I had really hoped to be the illustrator as well as the author.
But that didn't happen. The publisher and I will be picking an illustrator. I am completely sure they will do a great job and add a lot to the aesthetic of the book, and in the end, although it was disappointing, at least I tried. I quickly realized that it was probably all for the best, there is plenty for any author to worry about and fuss over without doing the illustrations as well.
In the meantime, I have spent recent mornings being super productive in the studio (and snapping quick pictures from the studio on Instagram). It's been hot in Seattle. And my studio feels extremely comfortable (one benefit to being in the basement). Aaaand I even much more natural light down there, with all the sunshine we currently have!
In the afternoons (and sometimes even before) I have been hanging out with Emma and Ian. It feels like they are gaining independence faster than ever. They don't need me to plan out their summer days the same way I did even last year. We ride bikes, we watch movies, we clean closets (because hey, sometimes they need a reality check), and then I drop the teenager off to be with her friend at the mall. It's really fun to be with them at this point in their lives, but please slow down everybody!
And please notice that I am learning domain mapping! This blog now has it's own url of wise craft handmade! Just click the link and see! (But don't worry, the old url works fine too.) And no broken links! I've been wanting to learn html for years. I felt like a complete dinosaur when nothing ever sunk in. I never got it AT ALL. But then one day, bam! Just like learning knitting or crochet! I finally started to get it! Since then I've been like a woman possessed! I'm working behind the scenes on so many exciting things thanks to all this newfound knowledge, so stay tuned.
Speaking of which, with google reader gone, I must recomment Bloglovin. I've tried both it and Feedly for a few months now, anticipating the change, and Bloglovin has been so easy to use.
I just don't like the name. McLovin from Superbad is all I can think of. But hey, it's a name that sticks in your brain, sometimes that's the point.
You can "follow" wise craft on Bloglovin by clicking on the image below, and you'll never miss a thing. You can also transfer all your subscribed blogs from google reader into Bloglovin with one click.
