I love using sheets of bark to make all kinds of things, and when I got a new wood burnishing tool, I wanted to make some tree carving-inspired Valentine "cards". Valentine's Day seems to whizz by, and I liked that these felt more long-lasting. Maybe your true love with hang it by his desk at our brand design office. Just a idea...
Materials:
- a sheet of bark (order online here, search etsy for "bark sheet", or look check your craft store, which is where I found mine- in the floral decor department)
- Wood burning/pyrography tool (I found mine at Hobby Lobby)
- computer
- printer
- tracing paper
- pencil
- scrap yarn, fabric, ribbon, etc.
To Make:
Play with ideas of what to write/burn onto your bark using your computer. For mine, I wrote out "you're my anchor" and found a copyright free image of an anchor online. I resized everything and printed it out.
Cut a piece of bark (my largest are 4" x6") and tape your printed image onto the bark. Slip a piece of transfer or tracing paper under the image(s) and trace over everything with a pencil. Remove the papers.
Using the wood burning tool and the pointiest tip, rewrite everything on the bark (so fun and addictive, smells like a campfire too!). I also burned holes at the top to hang the piece from.
Make pompoms to hang from the sides, and use yarn, torn strips of fabric, or ribbon to hang the piece of bark with.
