There are so many things I am inspired by this month in my studio. Something about late summer, and the promise of Fall gives me huge amounts of creative energy.
To download the August Wallpaper and use it for your own desktop wallpaper and hopefully inspire you, click here and drag it to your desktop. When you choose it as your screensaver/desk top image, be sure to choose "fill screen" or "stretch to fill screen". See the other inspiration images from 2012 here.
- Chicopee, Denyse Schmidt's newest Free Spirit line. Her prints really appeal to me on so many levels. I don't use huge spashy prints in my work these days, and her prints are small. The colors are spot on (I don't know how she does it!). Just as a blank canvas can overwhelm me creatively, large prints can do the same, so I just find myself drawn to smaller repeats. When I was at her workshop I bought a jelly roll to do a new version of my Friendship Bracelet quilt, and I can't wait to get started.
Raspberry Magic print by Mati Rose McDonough, available here.
- Painting. I've been taking Lisa and Mati's Beyond The Basics online painting class for the past several weeks, chipping away behind the scenes on 3 large paintings. They are far from complete, but that's ok, I am still really enjoying the whole process. I think I will keep at it. I wanted to share Mati's magic print (above) because its just so great. While I don't want to turn Emma's bedroom walls into some sort of Stuart Smalley motivational pep talk (I just bought this one for her) I may need this one for both of us.
- Artist Clare Rojas- There is really no one perfect place to read about her work online that seems recent, but google her, and you'll understand why her work really speaks to me and my love of Pennsylvania Dutch hex symbols and barn paintings these days.
- While I am still loving the neon trend in just about everything (so happy!) I haven't really let it trickle into my wardrobe. Not sure if I can pull it off, I'm pretty loyal to my basic black. Although I did let myself try on and buy a pair of mustard jeans today!
I would love to hear what you guys are being inspired by these days!
