Dare I say it, but we seem to be operating normally again. The downside of truly relaxing when we're away is that, well, we've truly relaxed. Everything just seeps right out of my head. Coming back is such a big jolt to the system (I forgot what time to meet my carpool). I woke up yesterday morning, sat like a deer in the headlights for a few moments, then jumped right in to making school lunches, washing 8 loads of laundry, and restocking the pantry. Hello life.
The Spring issue of Stitch magazine is out on the newsstands now. I am excited to have 3 projects in this issue, but besides that, its just packed full of some beautiful projects (you may remember how much inspiration I got from the last issue). I wanted to share a little about the projects you will see in there from me.
This travel lingerie bag has been a bee in my bonnet for a very long time, and I finally sat down one day in December and, through trial and error, figured it all out. Clean undergarments can go in the side marked "wear", the ones that need washing in the "wash" bag side. Essentially a tube with a zipper on each end, sewn through the middle, it makes 2 bags and a space for slippers to tuck in between the bags.
This modern eyelet pillow project is really all about playing with lace in a modern way. I love simple graphic repeats, symmetry (and I always like a nice peacock blue), and I really loved playing with the eyelet lace against the burlap fabric with the blue peeking out.
My favorite of the projects is this bejeweled pillow. I discovered these wonderfully sparkly sew-on Swarovski crystals at my favorite bead shop, Fusion Beads, and I just knew I was going to have to use them on something! (I've used them on some other recent projects too.) For this pillow, I mixed the sizes of the crystals (3 different sizes). Its tough to capture in a photograph just how stunning this effect is on the pillow, it really sparkles and picks up light so beautifully, like diamonds, you see it and you just have to touch it. I actually made a video of it so you could get a better idea of the sparkles.
If you guys make any of the projects, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks to Tricia and the wonderful folks at Stitch for such an inspiring magazine.
