In the midst of plenty going on around here as usual, I've decided that now, right now, is the time to paint the family room. Peter is convinced that I can't paint a room as well as he can, but I think he's busy enough to let me have a go at it. (He, of course, is wrong, we know that.)
Spring means more thrift shopping and garage sale-seeking around here, yay! We went second hand scouting this weekend and found a wonderful 1950's walnut finish coffee table and that's probably why I've got this painting bee in my bonnet. Its a wonderful color, and although I've always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with the numerous walnut wood finishes throughout our house (the previous owners really loved that color of wood finish), I'm actually starting to warm up to it again. (Wow, that only took seven years.)
I love the cane bottom shelf on the table, and the curved edges on the sides of the tabletop. We all pinky promised each other that we would not fill it up with magazines (ok, full disclosure, that's my problem primarily, not theirs). There's some scratches on the top. I love buying things that have had a former life.
I have looked through enough house inspiration online lately that I think I have a pretty good idea of where this room is going. If you've never looked through Holly's interior styling Flickr pool, take a look for some nice inspiration (great source if you struggle like me with how to place things on tables). As well, I think I've gone through each one of Grace's sneak peeks at Design*Sponge, and the inspiration section on LivingEtc.'s site. So, I think I'm going to get busy. I've got the new Broken Bells queued up on the Ipod to keep me company. I just love this collaboration more every time I hear it.
