I have been meaning to post this little project all summer. An school project for Emma's 3rd grade class last year was to recreate a building or store of their choice from Wallingford's 45th St. here in Seattle. There are quite an assortment of shops to pick from, and I was surprised when Emma quickly decided on Pharmaca Integrated Pharmacy. I mean, come on, hello Trophy Cupcakes, hello Molly Moon's.
But, okay, Pharmaca. I was totally game. We scheduled an interview with the manager, and when we met, Emma asked the questions and I filmed the interview. She took a thorough set of photos of the outside of the building, then came home and started her work. In a weekend, my girl had this miniature sweet little replica of a store she's in love with on 45th St. Here's the outside of the actual store (Emma's awnings have the same black and white stripes, you can't see it in the photos)-
And some tiny customers who just came out and obviously are happy they went in...
Emma used cardboard and a hot glue gun to put it all together (with our help, cause we can't keep our hands off projects like this). She painted it, did the window boxes, and made all the signs. (Well, okay, Peter typed the signs and printed them out, then Emma glued them on cardboard and painted them.) We could have all gotten all crazy with the details of this model, but Peter and I made the decision early on that we would give her a start, but then it had to be hers. Yes, I sat on my hands.
Last week, we delivered our little model to Pharmaca, where it will live. (I have no idea if it will be put out in the public space.) I can't say enough about the folks at that store, so gracious and nice. Coincidentally, I felt a slight fever the day we went in for our interview and they pointed me toward 2 natural remedies that had me completely turned around and feeling great by the next morning. I'll never forget the smell of those pills though, I don't want to know what was in there. Really rough.

Today, I'm thinking about-
- Having recently spent an insane amount of time on the phone with a technical support office in India when our wireless router went belly up, Peter told me I need to see Office Tigers (trailer here). I think he's right.
- Ian's current favorite song. Cute.
Thanks for all the nice words on the mitts. I have worn them out twice and don't know how I ever lived without them! The Noro yarn is not itchy, quite the contrary, nice and comfy.
Enjoy your Tuesday!
