Paperweights. I've always had a bit of thing for them, and this idea has been in my head for at least 6 months. Aren't paperweights like little pieces of art? Dutifully coralling a stack of boring, monotonous old work papers. Or weighting down big paper patterns when for cutting around them (which works far better than pinning). I've have a serious love for organic type things under glass (like butterflies) and I wanted to create a series of paperweights with this idea in mind. These images came from my sketchbook and some of the couched pillows I've done, and the fact that simple tiny hand stitches make me so very happy these days. This first series of 3 will go in my next shop update, which is planned for this Tuesday, February 5 at 12noon PST.
Little happiness bits today-
- My dear friend Neece has created a series of small, original works available for purchase here, just in time for Valentine's day. Neece's art is full of life and color, and she usually works in much larger sizes, but I'm so glad she's now made these small pieces available for purchase, I'm kind of drooling over the butterflies in the gold frames.
- To see how we bloggers can maintain friendships across a lot of miles, please read about the baby shower several of us surprised Manda with last week. I so wish I could have been there in person!! I am happy to say that Manda and I have been friends for a couple of years now, even though most of the time its only a quick hello on our blogs every six months or so. She's there and its nice to know she is. Happy baby Manda! xo
- Over at eightbyeight, Daria and I have finished up our pieces for January (mine is here, Daria's is here). This whole project is really so perfect for me right now. The size is small and the thoughts really span my creativity, which really is the point of the project. The idea being that each month's project couuld take all month to complete, or take just an afternoon, its really up to us. Thank you for all the links and the enthusiasm, and we hope you'll continue to follow along with us as we move into our February theme of "cozy" (the contents of our boxes for this theme will be revealed very soon).
