I have been so excited about this little project for a week now, I couldn't wait to share it with you. I totally made something I can actually wear on my body!! (Unlike that crap shirt I tried to pass off as wearable in college.) The only thing holding me back from posting was that this jacket is not photogenic at all. I think its the color of the fabric, but I have snapped waaaay too many pics of this little beauty (on and off my body) to continue. I really needed to move on.
This is Built By Wendy pattern and I've had my eye on it for a long time. (And its really not missing the bottom button in the photo above, I forgot to button it). I wanted a great transitional jacket for Fall, and I love the shape and pockets of this one. I don't think fitted and boxy is an easy combination in a jacket, but one that I like very much, if that makes any sense at all. I used a inky blue corduroy from Pacific Fabrics, it has about 3% Lycra in it so it holds it shape nicely. It was a breeze to sew. You know, I really think part of my unwillingness to sew clothing all these years was my quest for absolutely flawless, perfect symmetry. Right and left mirror images scare me. At least when I'm sewing clothing. But, I think I'm over it. This was the cure. I love this jacket, and I swear if I can ever figure out how to take a picture of me wearing it that doesn't look blurry and too dark, I will do it (maybe I need one of those little click things that hook to the camera so you snap pictures from across the room).
No, I did not save any money sewing it myself and probably spent more than if I'd gone out and just bought one. But I loved the experience. Very satisfying. I won't say I'll be making a ton of clothes for myself, but this was great.

And because I love reading when blogs collide in real life...my tomatoes from Daria's garden. We had a coffee date the other day. Thank you D.
Peter and I have discovered an Edinburgh alternative radio station on our computers that we love, called "Fresh Air" . If you have a MAC with ITunes, see if you have it already there, under "radio". Since we're both working at home these days, things like this are important. Good music, good coffee, good kitty. All good.
