petite pants

I've moaned to several of you (Melissa) about how I do not like to sew clothes.  I'm sure its because my former full time professional life was all about clothes.  I was part designer (create the garment), part merchandiser (put it with other garments to form the line), part trend forecaster (hope that your hunch of designing and merchandising is right and that this line of clothes really will sell because you are making it all a year in advance, so who knows...).  Relentlessly.  It all seemed fleeting and quick.  I'd say, "Geez, people...we make a line...then you want another line...then another"- all with a smile, of course, because I really did love it. I really did.  But I think it turned my own creative pursuits to things with a little more longevity, like quilts.

And now, here I am, realizing I've never blogged about my behind the scenes, obsessive pajama pant making alter ego.  I have one.  I love making these.  Homemade pj pants and white T's are what my kids sleep in every night.  I was looking at Emma's the other night, realizing the pair she was wearing seemed a little small.

Why, I do believe its time for a new line.

(left to right- hand me down fabric from Jen, toile from JoAnn's, thrifted fabric, thrifted sheet)

See & Sew #4005...you can make them in your sleep...really, its like making doll clothes...and you can use up all that fabric that's bright and pretty, that you thought you loved and had to have but never found a use for...I never made the matching shirt, couldn't be bothered, just buy some cotton T's...you could get crazy like I did once and use a patch of the pant fabric as a cute applique on the T...or even crazier and put some fancy trim around the bottom hems...no one seemed to notice these didn't have any of that.

I now have one very happy customer who's currently wearing the green pair on the far right.

And one very upset customer who's waiting for his to be made.

**Edited to add- Some wanted recommendations for adult patterns- Butterick Fast & Easy #3314 is the one I use, the pants are made the same way.  Easy, peasy!
