For the past two mornings (after a big bowl of Little Birds Granola) I have been working like a busy little bee in my studio. I'm gearing up for a shop update and I'm so excited about it! There will be sweater bears, felt birds, and whatever else crosses over my worktable this week. The ideas are really swarming. Something about March. I like March. I swear I could have slept through February entirely and not felt like I'd missed a thing. I don't know exactly what day/time I will update the shop, but I will send out a short announcement to my email list before I do it. (If you want to be added to the email list, please email me at blairpeter(at)comcast(dot)net with "shop update" in the subject line.)
I must boast about my 2nd grade Brownie troop and what a stellar job they did earning their sewing badge! They sewed simple, rectangular felt bags. The idea was they could use them to hold something special. Our requirements were to sew on at least 3 buttons, sew up the two sides, and sew on ribbon handles. Other than that, they could embellish them however they chose. I followed Vicki's very good advice and made dots along the sides they would sew up to help them keep their stitches even (thank you Vicki!). We had them sew stitches that would wrap around the edges (it seems the tendency is for them to do this naturally). If there were any super fast sewers, we brought along some extra yarn and stick-on felt flowers to keep them busy decorating their bags. By the end of the project, there were girls helping other girls, and I was inspired, yet again, by their teamwork. I am really proud of them!
So, Ian's haircut turned out really nice, the perfect combination of Echo and the Bunnymen with a teensy weensy Morrissey thrown in for Emily (which kinda happens naturally Em, I have no time to pompadour his pompadour, previous to this haircut that look was simply referred to as bedhead.) Did you see that Emily's updating her shop on Tuesday? With those needlefelted beauties she's been working on? Man, they are incredibly cute. I need to get back to needlefelting. Its so sad, I have a wool doggy that's about 80% finished, but there he sits on his piece of foam with a needle stuck through his neck. For over a year, poor guy. One day, you'll get your eyes, I promise!
