Didn't mean to flake out on my Friday loves! Were you afraid I had run out of material? Never fear, that would never happen. I was managing a household of busy kid schedules and a sick husband, wondering when the next person would fall. Peter was oh so sick. Poor guy. Plus we were wondering about Emma's state of health. Sally and her family were due to come over for brunch during their short trip into town and we had to cancel it. Sally, its a rain check. Next time, most definitely. Thank God for antibiotics, they do their job when you need them.
I love that blue and white dish. Its one of my favorite thrifting finds of all time, I actually found two of them. I gave the other one to Stephanie last summer, now I think of her every time I move this dish somewhere new, or fill it with new things. Isn't it great what kind of memories simple things like this can evoke?
The other day we went for a beach walk. To get out of the house and fill our lungs with fresh air. These northwest beaches are so very different than the east coast beaches from my childhood. Its hard to wrap my head around going to any beach in a coat and mittens. (Shouldn't you be wearing a bathing suit? Ready to do nothing more than lay on a towel, maybe a walk later?) But, its done here on a consistent basis, year round, as it should be. There is so much to see. I went on a hunt for heart shaped rocks (my love of these renewed by the card Amy sent to me, I found 3). Emma searched for shells while making sure to place anything that looked alive safely back into the water. Ian tasked himself with finding the largest rocks on the beach and promptly throwing them back into the water. (Makes me wonder how all that sea life Emma so gently put back in actually fared in the end.) Oh yea, and the train came by. So cool to be feet away from a train when you're a kid.
So quiet and peaceful. So good to feel the sun on our faces.
Back at home, I have finished piecing the quilt top for Emma's bed, our version of the original idea and inspiration. I want to do some embroidery on this before I start all the backing and quilt sandwiching business. Once you start on that road, there is really no going back at that point. I'm not yet sure what I want to do. Thinking...thinking...
Our girl scout sewing project is going just swimmingly. I'm so proud of my girls, they are such a sweet bunch to work with. We began our project, sewing little bags embellished with buttons, but will need another meeting to finish them. I'll share the finished project with you, they are turning out to be so cute. I brought along the story quilt I made for Emma and Ian to the meeting and spread it out flat on the floor. We invited girls in small groups (ones that needed a break from sewing) to come over and make up stories using the quilt. Surprisingly, it was a big hit. I explained a little about the history of sewing as we got started, asking the girls to imagine sewing with bone or wooden needles. I asked them if they remembered when Pa sold a cow to buy Ma a sewing machine.
I haven't had any time to reply to your comments. Thank you for sharing the enthusiasm for my week of love. Isn't it nice that we have our blogs and blog reading to remind us of lovely images from our lives...or even the not so lovely images, that's important too sometimes...
