I have to start thinking about Christmas. I really have to, unless I want to have a completely nutty December. Has everybody jumped on the yule bandwagon except me?
For whatever reason Martha is always such a calming place to start. I know this isn't true for everyone, the mere mention of her name stresses many of my friends out. Not me. I pull out the "Decembers" which used to be "December/Januarys" way back when. I happen to like those that combine the two months, cause the January parts always involve nesting...tucking in...something to look forward to. In the midst of the December flurry I can look at one page of those and fantasize about sitting under a handmade blanket with a cup of tea for the entire month of January, then flip to the next page and get snapped back to reality. I'm rambling...
Don't those truffles look yummy? I'm trying to figure out kid's holiday giftmaking for this season. You may remember what we made last year. Its a very special tradition for the kids and I to make gifts for family and friends, however simple they may be. I wrote about this in the winter issue of The Polishing Stone magazine (have you looked at this magazine? you should...you really should...). I saw those truffles in the Martha Stewart Holiday Handmade Gifts magazine and thought those would be fun. All done up in a plain white box, some candy cane striped string, handmade tag...Yes, I think my wee elves and I will be making a variation of those.
Although buying handmade is on my list too. And if you are in the Seattle area, Friday 6-9 & Saturday 10-3 is the Queen Anne Artist Trunk Show (in the Queen Anne Baptist Church). I will be there (there's 45 minutes of free childcare people! I can do a lot in 45 minutes!)
p s- My sis-in-law Jen is giving away fabric over at her blog. Need some for Christmas crafting, she'd be happy for you to take it off her hands.
