Yesterday I found as much as I could around the house to paint with chalkboard paint. I love this stuff, whenever I open a can of it ideas of how to use it start swirling around in my head, although not all practical ones. We have one whole wall in our basement junkroom playroom painted with both chalkboard and magnetic paint. (If our house ever falls, that wall will stay up purely because of the amount of and type of paint on it, I'm sure.) I made a simple chalkboard and hung it in our family room (kind of "chore list as art" approach- ha), and it will serve as a reminder (of the cheeriest kind, of course) of chores the kids will have to complete throughout the week. The Simple Living Guide has some great ideas on helping kids learn responsibility and we are feeling the need to work with the kids on this. My kids are very motivated by something visual like this. I wrote some tidying up chores for sake of a picture. My vision is a slightly more detailed list, with places for the kids to check off what they've completed. I can already see that I may need to make a bigger one, but wanted to use the abundance of wood we have around the house.
My chalkboard is a very simplified version of two photos that I love, both below. The top one from Pure Style Living, the bottom from September 2003 Martha.
Then I remembered this little project I've been wanting to do for literally years.
(Sorry for the bad photo, these are in my basement which is void of natural light, and I'm too lazy to haul them upstairs for a decent photo.) To know me well is to understand my love of the Knuff. Storage bliss for a magazine addict like me, I bring home a few every time I make a trip to IKEA. I had been wanting to paint a chalkboard square to label each one's content, so after all this time its finally done. These all hold my Martha's, organized by month. Ah, the organizational bliss!
I can't think of anything else that needs to be written on with chalk so I'll be moving on to other things. Quick little projects like this are making me very happy this week. Thanks so much for all the well wishes on my last post. The first day of school for Emma went off without a hitch, she's such an easy kid that way. Ian's first day at his new preschool is on Monday. I can only hope it will go as smoothly, my hunch is it will. Our visitors, Peter's parents, are due in tomorrow. We cannot wait (hear guys? hurry up and get here!)! Hope everyone is well.
